The Canadian Parliament is the supreme legislative body of Canada. It is composed of the Queen, the Senate, and the House of Commons. The Senate is the upper house of Parliament, and the House of Commons is the lower house.

The members of the Senate are appointed by the Governor General of Canada, on the advice of the Prime Minister. Senators serve until they reach the age of 75. The members of the House of Commons are elected by the people of Canada. They serve for a term of four years, or until Parliament is dissolved.

The Canadian Parliament is responsible for making laws for Canada. It also has the power to approve or reject government spending, and to hold the government to account.

The Senate

The Senate is composed of 105 members. There are 24 senators from Ontario, 24 from Quebec, 24 from the Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island),24 from the Western Provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia),and 24 from Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Senate is presided over by the Speaker of the Senate. The Speaker is appointed by the Governor General of Canada, on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The Senate has a number of important roles. It reviews and approves legislation passed by the House of Commons. It also has the power to initiate legislation, and to conduct studies on important issues.

The House of Commons

The House of Commons is composed of 338 members. There are 121 members from Ontario, 78 from Quebec, 32 from the Maritimes, 62 from the Western Provinces, and 38 from Newfoundland and Labrador.

The House of Commons is presided over by the Speaker of the House of Commons. The Speaker is elected by the members of the House of Commons.

The House of Commons has a number of important roles. It is responsible for initiating legislation, and for approving or rejecting government spending. It also has the power to hold the government to account.
