After graduating from high school, López Obrador attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM),where he studied political science. During his time at UNAM, he became involved in student politics and joined the Mexican Socialist Party (PMS). After graduating from UNAM, López Obrador returned to Tabasco and began his career in politics.
Political Career
López Obrador's political career began in 1976, when he was elected mayor of Macuspana, Tabasco. He served as mayor until 1982, when he was elected governor of Tabasco.
