Elijah Harper (1949-2013) was a Canadian politician, peacemaker, and pioneer of the Oji-Cree tribe.

Harper was born on the Red Earth Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised in a traditional Oji-Cree home and learned the language, culture, and traditions of his people.

Harper became involved in politics in the 1970s, when he was elected to the Red Earth Band Council. He served on the council for several years before being elected to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly in 1986.

Harper was a vocal advocate for Indigenous rights and land rights. He was a key figure in the Treaty 9 Land Rights Movement, which fought to protect the land rights of the Oji-Cree people.

Harper's work helped to raise awareness of Indigenous rights issues and led to a number of changes in Canadian law. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2007 for his contributions to the country.

Early Life and Education

Harper was raised in a traditional Oji-Cree home and learned the language, culture, and traditions of his people.

Harper attended residential school for a short time, but he was unhappy there and eventually dropped out. He then attended St. Paul's Indian Residential School in Lebret, Saskatchewan. Harper was a bright student, but he often clashed with the school's authorities. He was eventually expelled from the school for fighting.

Despite his difficult experiences at residential school, Harper remained proud of his Oji-Cree heritage. He was determined to make a difference in the lives of his people.
