Early Life and Education

Chris Wallace was born on October 12, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Mike Wallace, was a renowned investigative journalist for CBS News, and his mother, Norma Kaphan Wallace, was a social worker. Wallace grew up in a politically active household, and he developed an early interest in journalism.

Wallace attended Hotchkiss School, a prestigious boarding school in Connecticut, where he excelled in both academics and athletics. He went on to graduate from Harvard University in 1969 with a degree in history.

Early Career

After graduating from college, Wallace worked as a reporter for the Boston Globe and the New York Daily News. In 1975, he joined NBC News as a correspondent, covering a wide range of stories, including the Watergate scandal.

In 1982, Wallace moved to ABC News, where he hosted the weekly news magazine show "Nightline." Wallace's incisive interviewing style and his ability to get to the heart of complex issues quickly made him a respected figure in journalism.

Fox News Years

In 2003, Wallace joined Fox News, where he hosted the Sunday morning talk show "Fox News Sunday." The show quickly became one of the most influential in American politics, and Wallace's hard-hitting interviews with political leaders helped to shape the national debate.

During his time at Fox News, Wallace covered numerous major events, including the 2008 presidential election, the 2012 Benghazi attack, and the 2016 presidential election. He also interviewed a wide range of political figures, from President Obama to President Trump.

Wallace's tenure at Fox News was not without controversy. He was criticized by some for being too sympathetic to President Trump, while others praised him for his fairness and his ability to hold power to account.

60 Minutes

In 2021, Wallace left Fox News to join CBS News' "60 Minutes." The move was a significant coup for CBS, and it signaled a return to Wallace's roots in investigative journalism.

On "60 Minutes," Wallace has continued to produce hard-hitting and insightful reporting on a wide range of issues. His interviews with world leaders, business leaders, and other newsmakers have been praised for their depth and their ability to uncover new information.

Awards and Recognition

Wallace has received numerous awards for his journalism, including:

* Three Emmy Awards * A Peabody Award * A duPont-Columbia Award * A Polk Award * A National Press Club Award

In 2017, Wallace was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.

Personal Life

Wallace is married to Lorraine Martinelli Wallace, a former NBC News producer. They have four children. Wallace is a private person who rarely discusses his personal life in public.

Legacy

Chris Wallace is one of the most respected and accomplished television news anchors in American history. His career has spanned more than four decades, and he has covered some of the most important events in modern history.

Wallace is known for his hard-hitting interviews, his ability to get to the heart of complex issues, and his fairness. He is also known for his integrity and his commitment to journalistic ethics.
