Early Life and Education
Bob Woodward was born in Geneva, Illinois, in 1943. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a teacher. Woodward attended Yale University, where he studied history. After graduating from Yale, Woodward served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He then worked as a reporter for the Washington Post for three years before joining the New York Times in 1971.
Watergate and Woodward and Bernstein
Woodward is best known for his work on the Watergate scandal. In 1972, Woodward and fellow reporter Carl Bernstein began investigating the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office complex. Their reporting eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Woodward and Bernstein's book about the scandal, All the President's Men, was a bestseller and won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
Later Career
After Watergate, Woodward continued to write about politics. He has written books about every president from Jimmy Carter to Joe Biden. Woodward's books are often controversial, but they are always well-written and informative. He is one of the most trusted journalists in America.
Personal Life
Woodward is married to Elsa Walsh, a fellow journalist. They have two children. Woodward lives in Washington, D.C.
