Early Life and Education

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, on February 23, 1868. His parents were former slaves who had escaped to the North. Du Bois was a bright and curious child, and he excelled in school. He graduated from Fisk University in 1888 and went on to earn a doctorate from Harvard University in 1895.

Career

After graduating from Harvard, Du Bois taught sociology at Atlanta University. He also founded the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) in 1909. The NAACP is the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States. Du Bois served as the NAACP's director of research for many years, and he played a major role in the fight for civil rights.

In addition to his work with the NAACP, Du Bois was also a prolific writer. He wrote over 20 books and hundreds of articles on race, social justice, and African American history. His most famous work is The Souls of Black Folk, which was published in 1903. The Souls of Black Folk is a collection of essays that explores the experiences of African Americans in the United States.

Legacy

W.E.B. Du Bois died in Accra, Ghana, on August 27, 1963. He was 95 years old. Du Bois's legacy is immense. He was one of the most important figures in the fight for civil rights, and his work on race and social justice continues to inspire people around the world.
