Early Life and Career
Marlon Brando was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 3, 1924. His father, Marlon Brando Sr., was a salesman, and his mother, Dorothy Pennebaker, was an actress. Brando's parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Karl Malden.
Brando began acting in high school, and he went on to study at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in 1944 in the play I Remember Mama. Brando's performance in I Remember Mama was critically acclaimed, and he went on to star in a number of other successful Broadway productions, including A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) and Death of a Salesman (1949).
Hollywood Career
Brando made his film debut in 1950 in the film The Men. He went on to star in a number of classic films, including On the Waterfront (1954),The Wild One (1953),and The Godfather (1972). Brando won two Academy Awards for Best Actor, for his performances in On the Waterfront and The Godfather.
Brando was known for his intense and Method acting style. He was often difficult to work with, but he was also one of the most talented and respected actors of his generation. Brando's films continue to be watched and admired by audiences around the world.
Personal Life
Brando's personal life was as tumultuous as his professional life. He was married three times, and he had numerous affairs. He was also a heavy smoker and drinker, and he struggled with mental illness.
Brando died on July 1, 2004, at the age of 80. He is buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.
