Canada is a vast and beautiful country, with a rich natural heritage. It is no wonder that many of Canada's Prime Ministers have been passionate about the environment and conservation. Here are a few of the most notable:

Pierre Trudeau

Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister of Canada from 1968 to 1979 and again from 1980 to 1984. He was a strong advocate for environmental protection. In 1971, he created the Department of the Environment, which was the first federal department in the world dedicated to environmental protection. He also helped to establish the Canadian Wildlife Service and the National Parks System. Trudeau is also known for his role in the signing of the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement on climate change.

Stephen Harper

Stephen Harper was Prime Minister of Canada from 2006 to 2015. He had a mixed record on environmental protection. On the one hand, he withdrew Canada from the Kyoto Protocol and cut funding for environmental programs. On the other hand, he also created the Northern Gateway Pipeline, which would have transported oil from Alberta to the west coast of Canada. The pipeline was eventually cancelled due to concerns about its environmental impact.
