Bob Poole has spent his life behind the lens of a camera, capturing some of the most iconic images of our time. As a filmmaker for National Geographic, he has traveled to some of the most remote and dangerous places on Earth, from the Amazon rainforest to the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. In his new memoir, On Assignment, Poole shares his experiences and insights from a life spent on assignment.
Poole's journey with National Geographic began in 1980, when he was hired as a cameraman on a film about the Amazon rainforest. He quickly fell in love with the work, and over the next 30 years, he would go on to produce over 100 films for the network. His work has taken him to every corner of the globe, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and he has witnessed some of the most important events of our time, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the rise of the internet.
In On Assignment, Poole shares his experiences filming in some of the most extreme environments on Earth. He describes the challenges of working in a war zone, where the threat of violence is always present. He also discusses the importance of storytelling in a world that is increasingly dominated by images. Poole believes that a good story has the power to change the world, and he hopes that his films will inspire others to care about the environment and the people who live in it.
On Assignment is a fascinating and inspiring memoir from one of the most respected filmmakers in the world. Poole's stories are full of adventure, humor, and heart, and they offer a unique glimpse into the life of a National Geographic filmmaker.
