Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim was a Finnish military leader, statesman, and diplomat who served as the sixth President of Finland from 1944 to 1946. He was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Finnish Army during the Winter War and the Continuation War.

Mannerheim was born in Askainen, Finland, on June 4, 1867. His father was a Swedish-speaking nobleman and his mother was a Finnish-speaking commoner. Mannerheim grew up in a wealthy and privileged environment. He attended the prestigious Hamina Cadet School and then served in the Imperial Russian Army. He fought in the Russo-Japanese War and was awarded the Order of St. George for bravery.

After the war, Mannerheim was elected President of Finland. He served in this role until 1946, when he retired from public life. He died in Helsinki on January 27, 1951.
