Andy Rooney was an American television personality, journalist, and author. He was best known for his regular commentaries on the CBS news magazine 60 Minutes, which he delivered for more than 30 years.

Rooney was born in Albany, New York, on January 14, 1919. He began his career in journalism as a reporter for the Albany Times-Union. In 1942, he joined the Army Air Forces and served as a combat correspondent during World War II.

After the war, Rooney worked for a number of newspapers and magazines, including Stars and Stripes, Time, and Fortune. In 1968, he joined CBS News as a correspondent for the 60 Minutes program. He quickly became one of the show's most popular contributors, known for his wry wit and his ability to find humor in the everyday.

Rooney's commentaries were often controversial, but they were always thought-provoking. He was not afraid to speak his mind, even when his views were unpopular. He was also known for his sharp wit and his ability to deliver a punchline with perfect timing.

Rooney retired from 60 Minutes in 2011, after more than 30 years on the show. He continued to write and speak out on issues that were important to him, until his death in 2011.
